The group’s name is inspired by the first verse of “Onde anda você”, a song by poet Vinicius de Moraes and guitarist Hermano Silva. And so it was from sung words that the first meeting was born. “E por falar em saudade…” became “By the way, translation” and, over the years, our research group was formed. That way, half by chance, half as a pretext to talk about translation, half because the word “saudade” is always so untranslatable.
The group is formed by people interested in translation theories and practices in various areas, such as audiovisual translation, machine translation, specialized texts, literary texts, among others. We’re also interested in aspects related to the training of translators.
Since 2010, we have organized the event “E por falar de tradução”, held biannually, which emphasizes practical activities through mini-courses and workshops offered by renowned researchers and professionals in the field. There are also conferences and lectures on the history and current trends in Translation Studies.
Since 2017, participants in the research group have been translating theoretical texts on tradition, some of which have already been published in volumes I and II of “As diversas faces da tradução na contemporaneidade” (2018; 2021) and in the book “Entre palavras e imagens: ensaios e pesquisas em memória, tradução e intermidialidade” (2023).
From 2019 to 2022, the group took part in the project to translate and adapt the book “Our Bodies, Ourselves”, in partnership with UFRJ, promoting research and discussions on feminist, voluntary and activist translation. A partial volume, with 7 chapters, was published in 2021. In 2023, the complete book was published, entitled Nossos corpos por nós mesmas, with 28 chapters (1161 pages), including a presentation by the coordinators and a preface by the translators.
